Spring, boating season and a few black flies!

Spring has been having difficulty loading properly with more than our fair share of wet soggy days. As boats are launched and the baseball and 3 pitch fields become more active, your Council has embarked on a strategic planning process - the first complete review since 2005. Working with a professional facilitator, your Council is identifying its key priorities which will guide the activities of both Council and staff through 2022. We encourage everyone to participate in this process by attending an open session with our facilitator on Saturday June 15th from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Rosseau Memorial Hall. Alternatively, you can share your thoughts with us by writing to strategicplan@seguin.ca.

Council has now finalized the 2019 budget and we are pleased to report that the Capital and Operating budgets represent only a 1.55% municipal tax increase over 2018. For the average residential property, this translates to a .05% or $1.25 increase versus 2018.

The Seguin population increases dramatically as spring unfolds and our seasonal residents join the permanent resident population. As you launch your boats, please be aware of the damage large wakes are causing to natural shorelines and many docks and boathouses - some which remain underwater due to the severe flooding our region has experienced. Keep wakes to an absolute minimum until lake levels return to normal levels.

A community listening session was held on Thursday May 2nd regarding the issue of boat parking at the municipal docks in Rosseau. The issues are many and complicated. Staff will be bringing the results of this listening session to Council on June 3rd. If you would like to be heard on this issue, please write or email Dominique O'Brien at dobrien@seguin.ca.

Activities are many at Seguin from May to August. Everything can be found at seguin.ca Stop by any one of the Seguin libraries or the Township office and pick up our newest brochure - Programs and Events - May to August 2019. Registration is now open for summer swim programs at the Matheson Beach and Rosseau Waterfront. Youth Lacrosse, Youth Ball Hockey, 3 pitch and baseball leagues are all in full operation starting in early May. And this year, back by popular demand and organized by the Lake Rosseau North Association - the Rosseau Regatta and Family Fun Day Saturday July 27 starting at 9:00 AM. Mark your calendars!

I look forward to seeing you and your families at many of our upcoming events.
